Due to social-distancing concerns, it has been a challenge to find ways to stay active service-wise in our community. However, this was a challenge that the MDCHS Key Club wanted to tackle, and we found that one of the best ways to provide a joyful service act during this time was to create butterfly boxes for senior graduates. This idea was provided to us by our Division 11 Leadership team.
Butterfly boxes are jars, boxes, and bowls filled with goodies for high school and college seniors who have missed having a graduation ceremony and other senior activities. The boxes are meant to brighten their days with a handwritten note detailing a meaningful message, and other gifts like the favorite candies and snacks of that senior. This was a division-wide service event that allowed our Key Clubbers in quarantine to participate in a kind act of service. We had all sorts of boxes and jars delivered to seniors who were a key part of our MDCHS club members’ lives.
